Before You Begin

Do you have 'Flash' loaded in your internet browser? This site and the associated Moodle website contain elements that require you to have an Adobe Flash Player installed in your browser. If you do not have this plug-in you may access it from the Adobe Flash Player site at: http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer.

Step 1: Music Teachers Oz Website

The website has been designed into rooms. You may enter the project room, the public room, the context room, the student room or the researchers rooms. Buttons to enter these rooms can be found at the top of the page. Links for these rooms can also be found at the bottom of the page. You can enter these rooms freely, reading about the project in each of the rooms.

Step 2: Moodle Site

The Moodle site is an area where people interested in music education can go to interact with other people.

Students can access their reflective journal, discussion boards, case studies, a dreaming room and project wiki's.

Researchers and Lecturers can access their reflective journals, chat rooms, student’s discussions  and their own discussion board.

The Public can access the news and a public forum.

You can enter the Moodle site by either clicking on the blue button at the right hand top of the screen, or clicking on hyperlinks within each of  the rooms. When you link to the moodle site,  a new window will open.  You will know you are in the interactive moodle site if the background on your screen is light blue, rather than dark blue.  Remember, the dark blue site is predominantly for first-time users and the public, and therefore does not have the interactive capabilities of the moodle (light blue) site.

Information about role of students
As a pre-service teacher, we would like you to engage in all elements of this project. These elements include:

  • proposing solutions in the 'collaborating' Wiki site;
  • commenting on others’ solutions and meeting the teachers in the discussion forum;
  • reflecting upon your experiences of engaging with these case studies in your online reflective journal;
  • gathering and evaluating effective online resources for use in the classroom.

Step 3: Logging onto Moodle Site

The moodle siteWhen you enter the moodle site, you will see a series of rooms. Click on the room that you wish to enter. When you see a This course requires an enrolment keySummarysign, you can only enter the room once you have the key from your lecturer or the administrator. Different keys will open different doors.

You can either click on the room or the item in the room. This will bring you to a login area. If you are a first time user, you will need to fill out the login menu to the right. To do so click on a button called “create a new account”. If you already have a username and password, enter these on the left hand side of the screen.

First Time Users

When you first log on, you will be asked to create your own username and password. You will also need to enter your first name and surname. When you enter your surname, make sure that you incorporate your institutions name. For example Smith USQ, Smith GRIFFITH. A confirmation email will be sent to your email account. You may then log on (by entering your username and password on the left hand side of the screen) and access the rooms.
