Welcome to the project roomBridging gaps in music teacher education: developing exemplary practice models using peer collaborationThis project is designed to provide greater connection between research and teaching in Australia for music education. New curriculum models that respond to research recommendations will be collaboratively developed for implementation in music teacher education programs. We are also hoping to bridge the gap between research, teaching and academic development across institutions in Australian music teacher education.Throughout the project we maintain that effective learning occurs where students are able to draw upon their own prior knowledge to build confidence and understandings in music use as both students and teachers. These experiences are context sensitive and students should be enabled to engage actively in a range of communities of 'authentic' music/practice. In this project, university education students will try to solve authentic music education problems provided by Australian teachers. The problem-based learning and assessment attached to this project is holistic, integrated and centred in practice and will be operating across four different universities so that lecturers and students will have meaningful opportunities for networking and collaboration
